It has just fewer than 3 million inhabitants, making it the most sparsely populated country in the world, and more than 1 million of the people reside in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. About a third of the population is engaged in the traditional economy of agriculture and livestock, and the majority of these still practice a nomadic lifestyle.
